Hello Woofers!
Daisy here.
Yesterday, just after we published the blog, Eric de Ferret died of a heart attack. He was cuddled up in Old Two Legs arms when it hit him.
He hasn't been well for a couple of weeks and yesterday he didn't want to do anything except sleep.
Every time OTL put him back in the cage he rushed back to the cage door and into OTL's arms and cuddled up again.
Finally, the heart attack hit him and after a couple of faint breaths he slipped away to the Rainbow Bridge to meet up with Wendy and the gang.
We got Eric from the Harrietsham Ferret Rescue as a mate for Wendy who had lost her mate Freddy de Ferret. As is her way, Wendy showed off for a while attacking Eric but he just turned around, shoved his butt in her face and let her get on with it!
It wasn't too long before we found the pair of them cuddled up together in a Cuddle Cup or under a blanket together, snoozing their tails off!
When Wendy went, Eric missed her and would go from bed to bed looking for her and I don't think he really got over the loss.
Eric has been fighting a tumour on his back leg and it looked like we were winning but the vet had warned us that the tumour could spread.
I think in the end it was that which caused him to go downhill, even though the tumour looked like it was healing over.
Eric was a super ferret; he would climb up onto OTL's lap and lick his nose or ear. He was the only ferret that The Missus allowed to lick her cheek or nose.
He is going to be sadly missed, a real gentleman ferret.
OTL put him into the big urn where all the past woofers now reside and we can go and have a chat with them and tell them all what’s happening.
