The Tide was In, and so was I!

Hello Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret here!

Wot a super day today has been, loads of sunshine and a few Two Legs mucking about on the beaches with their Mini TL's!

Just look at that sky!
There were loads of MTL's on the stony beach, I mean, if they walked a little way along the shore they would have found sand to play in!

What are they building, Rock Castles?
Holly was all keen to visit them and say 'Hello' but of course wot she really means when she says that is.....got any food?

Come on, let's go and visit, they must have food with them!
I wasn't interested and headed for the water, first for a little splash and then for a super big splosh in the water!

Now, Old Two Legs is too far away and the water is so close I'm going in!
And in I went!

I even came out, woofed at OTL but he wouldn't throw any sticks for me!

I wish I had brought a stick or two or even a ball!
Then I had a brilliant idea. If OTL took his boot off and threw it in the water, I could rush in and rescue it!

Come on, gissa boot and I'll 'rescue it, promise!
We even invited Eric in for a swim but he said that he would rather stay dry thank you very much!

Wet is OK when you mix it with suds but not with sand!
Back home our garden is a favourite with the Collard Doves that hang around looking for seed dropped from the bird feeder but now they have taken to resting on the tree branch, catching the rays!

You always need a rest after a good feed!
We have got the F1 racing this weekend so that's more exciting things to watch on the TV!

See you tomorrow!

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret

Sneaky Squeeks in the early hours!

Hi Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret back with you again!

It seems that Miss Wendy has a new game to play on Old Two Legs. This morning, around three thirty, The Missus woke OTL saying that there was screaming coming from the ferrets. So, bouncing off the walls and doors, OTL sleep walking into the office, OTL expected to find two fighting ferrets ripping the legs off each other.

He switched the light on and looked into the cage to find on the ground floor, fast asleep on the hammock, Miss Wendy was gently snoozing.

On the top floor, tucked up inside one of the cuddle cups was Eric, paws in the air, snoring his tail off!

So, who was screaming? Was TM dreaming? Had the ferrets played a sneaky trick on poor OTL?

Answers on a ten pound note please!

Eric came out with us first thing and enjoyed a super walk along the Seashore but he still kept asking for a lift. He really wanted to see what was ahead and behind in case there were any woofers creeping up behind!

Come on, I need a lift!
Lunch time, Miss Wendy decided she was going to stay in bed catching up on her sleep that was interrupted when OTL came crashing into the office in the middle of the night!

Holly and I had a good run around and just for a change we went down the big hill and into the woods.

My turn to run down the hill!
Of course, Holly tried to beat me down the hill but she just rolled down where I raced down!

OK, I'll beat you down this time!
OTL was more interested in photographing the Grain Tower and a passing yacht!

Well, he brought his 400mm lens so we suppose he must be allowed to play!
Good to see Archie Babe has got clean Toothy Pegs, we get a Teeth Cleaning Chew every day and that helps keep us with a bright white grin!

Mind you, we don't get our butts inspected!

Saying that, there are times when we get a butt wash 'cos we sometimes get a Grumbly Tum, but that's another story!

See you all tomorrow!

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret.

Cloud, Wet Rain and a Squeaking Wendy!

Hello Woofers!

It's Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret again!

This matchmaking is getting a bit tiring, it seems that Miss Wendy likes to wait until it's all dark before attacking Eric who keeps falling out of his bed!

Last night there was one squeak at ten thirty and again at midnight.

Eric is still not sure how to get on her good side and what starts as a friendly butt sniff quickly turns into a punch up as she tries to bite lumps out of him!

It will work out, it's just going to take time.

As a reward, Eric came out with us this morning.

Reward! It's blooming raining!
Lucky for us it didn't last long and we were soon heading down the sea front looking for new sniffs!

Well, I reckon it's seagull poo!
Eric was more interested in searching for Weasel Poo!

No Weasel Poo, just Woofer droppings and Bird Muck!
After a run on the beach we headed back towards the car 'cos it started to rain again!

Race you back and let's leave Eric and Old Two Legs behind!
The only problem was, OTL had the car keys and unless he was there we couldn't have got into the car!

Wendy came out for a run later and although it was getting warm she still kept up a run all along the sea front but she got carried as we went up the local mountain!

Any steeper and it will be 'Ice Axe and Crampons'!
The rest of the day has been spent snoozing under OTL's desk and nabbing a Chocolate Cookie!

See you tomorrow.

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret.

...and the war continued!

Hi Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret back again!

First of all, thanks for the helpful advice regarding instructing ferret wooing!

Miss Wendy has been 'Done', so the 'Poor Man in Trouble' is a no goer!

Eric has lost his jewels so he doesn't wake up with a glint in his eye either!

Last night there was no screaming at four or even five but we did find a poo in the sleeping area, so Miss Wendy did have a 'Moment' with Eric but it looks like Eric went back to sleep!

Wendy came out with us for a walk and had a great time ferreting in the long grass.

Back home Eric was showing off 'cos he didn't go out for a walk and when they came out of the cage for a rampage around the house Eric chases Wendy, who then hides under some boxes and when they finally meet.....................well, that's when the fight started!

If ever you have been close enough when ferrets are having a punch up you will know they have the same defencive action that a skunk has and it don't 'arf make your eyes water.....Phew!

Lunchtime came and it was just too hot for Eric to come out with us, he said he would stay on the hammock and catch the breeze as it wafted through the window and across his tummy!

Not that we worried 'cos that means Holly and I can go at our own speed and try to mug anyone who had any food!

We came across one Two Legs but he told us to 'Woof Off', in his own language!

We went for a drive as well 'cos Old Two Legs had to drop some stuff off at the carriers and we had plenty of time to enjoy the air con in the car, super and almost too cold!

So, let's hope there is peace and quiet tonight and they stay snoozing until it's getting up time!

Better still, we creep into the office and find them cuddled up on the hammock.

I suppose that is a little too much to ask for at the moment, but, claws crossed, they have three weeks before we go on holiday and we want them in the same cage by then!

See you tomorrow.

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret.

Two Steps forward an one step back!

Hello Woofers!

Here we are again, Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret!

I dunno what it is about four in the morning but we think it is the time of the day when ferrets just fancy a punch up!

Yep! This morning at four The Missus yelled out, 'They're at it again!

That means Old Two Legs is bouncing off the wall and into the door on his way to the office where the screaming was supposed to be coming from.

Once he got there both ferrets were asleep!

No problem, back to bed for a snooze until getting up time.

So, an hour later than normal OTL wanders into the office to find two ferret, on the same hammock cuddled up to each other!

Then one eye opened and up got Eric to get his morning slurp of Ferretone, having done that he went back to the cage and Wendy next came out for her slurp.

We were almost dancing up and down with the progress made. That was until Wendy looked over the edge of the hammock, spotted him and sank her teeth into the back of his head!

Eric, taking that as the resumption of warfare, rushed up the ladder, jumped on top of Wendy and sank his teeth into the back of her neck!

Then the fight started!

OTL was there to pull them apart, thank goodness and things went back to normal hostilities!

Eric came out with us in the morning but there was just too many Two Legs wandering along the sea front for him to have a long walk so, instead he had series of walks and cuddles followed by a race across the football field!

Now today is supposed to be a holiday but OTL has been playing on the computer trying to swap files over, without too much success!

We were late in getting out at lunchtime and Holly decided she wanted to go a different way around the hills and bushes. Mind you, there were some strange sniffs!

Hey! What is that sniff?
Holly found a sniff that made here turn her nose up!

That was YUCK!
OTL had the Infrared Camera and we decided that the picture really needs to have a bit of sky in it to add some interest!

Mmmm, yes, but what really goes down is some cloud as well!
Unfortunately, there were no clouds in the sky so we just had to put up with the blue bit above the horizon!

Mind you, Holly suggested some trees to add interest, so, a few clicks later we got some trees!

OK, but we got some 'Lens Flare' in the top right hand side!
Right, turn your back to the sun and .........reflection off the leaves!

Back to the drawing board or maybe change over the camera back to a colour digital!
Back home the ferrets were both fast asleep and seem to have decided that opposite ends of the cage is the best place to sleep, until four in the morning!

Let's hope that tomorrow we find them cuddled up again but without the violence!

See you tomorrow!

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret!

Sunday 25 August 2019

The Ferrets are fighting, it must be 4am!

Hello Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret here!

Wot a super day it's been, well it is if you forget the punch up the ferrets had at four this morning!

We went out this morning and there was misty stuff everywhere so we didn't take the camera. Instead we took Miss Wendy who enjoyed a run across the football field but when she got to the other side her tummy was soaking wet with the dew, so, up she gets and has a cuddle with Old Two Legs until her underside was nice and dry!

Do you think OTL will give me a cuddle when my tummy gets wet?

No, neither do I!

Back home both ferrets were let out for a rampage while OTL did his duties. It was interesting to see that the warfare was developing, sort of.

Miss Wendy would go ferreting under Holly's sleeping mat, Eric being inquisitive started to dig under the mat and of course, finally ended up nose to nose with Wendy......... and that's when the fight began!

It wasn't the normal territory fight, you know, with feeling. Instead this one was Eric, reversing his butt to ward off Wendy who was screaming at him but not attacking him with her teeth, just making a big noise!

That might be a good sign and these little changes are all pointing towards living with each other!

Of course, it will take a little while yet, but we are all keeping our claws crossed!

Now, OTL gave us our monthly dose of anti insect stuff down the back of our necks. Today he swapped over to the Holiday Stuff.

This is the one that gets rid of Ticks which I just HATE!

The stuff he puts on us is not very nice cos it itches like mad and I'm rubbing my neck along the furniture!

The ferrets got their dose as well and they both said it was horrid but they were soon asleep, separately!

Once the stuff had dried Eric set off with us for a stroll along the seafront.

Holly was the first to see a large container ship heading up the Thames into London to unload a load of containers.

Do you think they have any food on there?
Now OTL had received instructions from The Missus, it seems that she is planning to plant some baby cacti and needed some stuff to put in the flower pot. One of the ingredients is a handful of grit and the local plant place didn't have any for sale, so, OTL was told to take a carrier bag and put a couple of handfuls of sea shells in the bag.

Now that was all OK except that the bag had a hole in it and as much as OTL put sea shells in the bag, most just flowed out and onto the beach!

Finally OTL managed a couple of handfuls and double knotted the bag so with the sea shells in the bag it looked just like a Christmas Haggis!

Of course Eric was helping by digging the shells up and throwing them behind himself for OTL to pick up!

Shall I dig some more or is that enough?
We got back into the car and we were treated to a blast from the air con unit which was so good that Eric said it was blowing ice cubes into his cage!

Now, back home Eric was put back into the cage and found Wendy curled up on the hammock, well, he crept up onto the hammock, bent over and sniffed her ear!

Wendy, still half asleep, turned her head, looked at him and put her head back onto the side of the hammock without attacking him!

Every little development is noted!

Claws crossed, we may get a peaceful, fight free night tonight!

Bye for now!

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret!

Saturday 24 August 2019

Out comes the Infrared Camera and Eric gets thrown out, again!

Hi Woofers!

Here we are again, Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret!

Remember yesterday when at three in the morning warfare started?

Eric got transferred back to his cage just so we could all get some sleep!

Well, last night they went off to bed around nine. By the time we went to bed there had been no noise at all!

Then, just when we were all snoozy there was a howling scream (Miss Wendy) and a crash on the cage floor, (Eric de Ferret), loud footsteps up the stairs (The Missus in full flight) then a swear word coming from the bedroom (Old Two Legs walking into bedroom door)!

Time?

Half past five, now, that ain't bad!

OK, there was still a punch up but it didn't last long and they both managed to get some sleep!

Miss Wendy came out with us this morning and had a good run along the sea shore and through the long grass and of course, she managed to blag a lift in the ferret bag when her legs got tired!

The best bit is sitting in OTL's hand!
Normally when the sun comes out OTL likes to get the Infrared Camera out and have a play, trying to get some strange shots 'cos the infrared light does some strange things!

Yep! It's Infrared time again!
Lunchtime was fun, we took the camera and Eric, just to see what we could do. Well, to be honest, OTL didn't have all the buttons in the right place so most of the photos were a little 'Rubbish'!

Except for the one of Eric!

Infrared does things to my eyes!
So, the afternoon was spent fiddling with the controls of the camera so that when we go out tomorrow we should get some reasonable shots, providing it's not cloudy or rainy!

Of course, if the ferrets behave themselves we will also get a good nights sleep!

See you tomorrow.

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret!

Friday 23 August 2019

.....and that's when the fight started!

Hi Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret here again!

All this match making stuff we have been having with Wendy and Eric has been a big sort of up and down switch back ride!

It started off yesterday evening, Eric and Wendy had been snoozing in the cage and not attacking each other, then as evening progresses there is a couple of spats that didn't last long and they were asleep again.

Old Two Legs decided to leave them both in together and see what happens, well, about two thirty in the morning there was a big scream and crashing of ferrets all over the cage.

OTL got up and separated them, checked for blood, told them they were naughty and put them back in the cage again.

That lasted all of forty five minutes and they started again.

This time OTL put them in different cages and headed back to bed for some sleep!

As it was Wendy who was awake, she came out with us this morning and enjoyed a run along the sea wall sharing the sniffs with us.

Hey! I've found a 'Fishy One' here!
Holly even tried some sunbathing on the beach even though she hadn't brought the Factor 35!

It's OK, the harness keeps the sun off my neck!
Back home the ferrets were put in the cage together and there was no fighting, in fact they sort of knew the other ferret was in the cage but there were no punch ups, just stares across the cage.

Lunchtime it was Eric's turn for a run and he had a great time chasing both Holly and I, trying to give our legs a nip if we didn't go fast enough!

I'm coming to get you!
Of course, being holiday time there were visitors to the beach and the normal questions.

Is that a Rat/Puppy/Stoat/Weasel and of course there was.......They have Sharp Teeth/Smell/Dangerous Killers!

It didn't help when OTL says to them.....'Can you put your big dog on a lead 'cos I don't want you dog to get hurt if my ferret turns nasty!'

If you come closer I'll rip your legs off and eat them for dinner!
So, all afternoon it has been all peace and quiet with both ferrets retaining their limbs.

Let's hope that we can get through the night without any more warfare!

We think it was very good of Archie Babe to allow his Two Legs out to visit the Burger Bar without him even though he would have enjoyed a sample of Burger, just to ensure the taste is how he remembers!

See you tomorrow.

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret.

Still Trying!

Hi Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret here!

More fun and games today. As you know, yesterday we were trying to get Eric and Wendy together which resulted in some loud screams from Wendy and Eric being chased all over the place.

Well, Old Two Legs decided that over night he would put them back in their own cages, for safety's sake and so we can all get a nights sleep!

This morning it all started again.

A bowl with some Ferretone was put down and both ferrets placed either side of the bowl, two ferrets slurping away all peaceful like, until the oil had gone then Miss Wendy flew at Eric, tried to grab his neck and they were rolling around..............and that's when the fight started. More howling and screaming from Wendy. It sounded like a War Cry mixed with a Battle Cry but the funny thing was, it was Wendy who was doing the attacking and making all the noise!

Talking of noise, Holly and I were on the bed enjoying a teeth cleaning chew when Eric wandered into the bedroom. Holly, being very protective of her food decided to call OTL in to get Eric out of the bedroom!

Now, there are several 'woofs' we woofers have, like there is the 'Clear Off or I'll Sort You Out'!

Then there is 'I Wanna Go Out For A WEEEE'!

The best is ...'There's a Cat in the Garden and I Want To Eat It!!!!!!!!!

Today it was another woof, it was............

'He's in here, He's in here, He's in here, He's in here!'

OTL wandered into the bedroom and found Eric half way up the duvet trying to get onto the bed!

That was it, Eric gets thrown out of the bedroom and Holly and I went back to sleep, cuddling our chews!

So, that was it, Eric went looking for Wendy and she went looking for a safe place to hide!

After cleaning the cages Eric climbed into the cuddle cup and OTL noticed that Eric had one eye closed, looks like he got a black eye from Wendy!

We'll have a look at it after he wakes up later.

Eric came out with us this morning, the sun was out and so were the nasty little midge type insects, OTL was walking about with the hood of his jacket up over his head!

Not that they bothered Holly or Eric, we are used to little insects!

No insects here!
When we got to the beach Eric said he could do with a bit of a sun bathe, a bit like Old Freddy, he just loved rolling on his back to catch a few rays!

Anyone got some Factor 35?
We only had one little spat this morning but OTL was there like a shot and kept them apart. As normal, it was little Miss Wendy who started it off, a howling scream then she shot across the cage after Eric. She was stopped halfway across the cage and redirected back under her blanket!

She was not happy and stayed under the blanket mumbling and grumbling at OTL!

Lunchtime OTL took her out with us, mainly 'cos she would be tired after a run along the seafront in the warm sunshine and less likely to attack Eric'

....and when I get back I'll bounce him out of the cage!
Well that didn't work, she threw Eric out of the cuddle cup and he had to go on one of the hammocks!

Good to see Archie Babe has got rid of his visitor, we feel the same when the Hooligans go after visiting us, normally all the food bowls are empty and the chews have disappeared from the Treat Box!

It's always lovely to see them, that is when they arrive but it's better when they go!

OTL says he may chance leaving both ferrets together in the cage tonight 'cos today it has been relatively quiet, cross claws there will be no screaming from Wendy!

See you tomorrow.

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret!

Match Making!

Hello Woofers!

It's Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret here again!

The weather looks like it will be all bright and sunny over the weekend so we are expecting to get out for good run all over the place, with the ferrets if everything goes well!

It was such a nice morning that Old Two Legs took Wendy out for a morning walk instead of Eric, Eric was not happy about that!

Makes a nice change to be out first, but she doesn't know whats coming!
Yesterday Old Two Legs visited the Harrietsham Ferret Rescue to hand over a cheque for money donated by the lovely ladies of the Allhallows Glue & Glitter Croppers!

While he was there he said hello to some of the ferrets awaiting new homes.

He was very good, he said that he planned to get Eric and Wendy together in the same cage without any fighting!

Roy suggested a bowl with some Ferretone Oil in the bottom and to slosh some over the backs of their necks before putting them together.

Well, today we tried it, to start off with, it seemed to go well, both Eric and Wendy had their noses in the bowl slurping away at the oil and then started licking each others neck.

Things looked good, well, until the oil had gone and the back of their necks were almost dry.

Then with a big scream Wendy launched herself at Eric who was bowled over backwards wondering where this ball of fury had come from!

Eric did what most male ferrets do when attacked like that, he showed her his butt, so she tried to bite it!

At that point OTL stepped in and separated them and they broke off and ran away.

So, while OTL was cage cleaning there were minor scraps and screams amongst the toys and chasing all through the house!

After cleaning the cages both ferrets came into the office, climbed into each others cage and set about wrecking each others bed clothes. Blankets went up in the air, cuddle cups were thrown around and to finish off, they both did a poo in the bottom cage!

By the time all this had happened, both ferrets were a little snoozy and headed for bed. Wendy got into her bedding and Eric tried to get in with her!

That's when the fight started!

Once again OTL separated them and both got into separate beds, this seemed to work, for a couple of minutes. Miss Wendy decided that she wanted to get into her bed that Eric was occupying and as before...........it was then that the fight started!

How long before she discovers Eric is a little closer than she wants him to be!
This time OTL put Wendy in her cuddle cup, on the ground floor and Eric went up on the hammock on the top floor and there they stayed.

So, all today OTL has been in the office watching both ferrets and making sure there were no more fights, well, OK, there were one or two spats but nothing too violent!

Today OTL reckons it has gone very well and with a bit of luck by the time we go on holiday the pair of them will be all cuddled up and using just the one cage!

More news as it comes!

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret!

A seriously Lazy Day!

Hello Woofers!

Here we are, Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret!

Well now, I know that we all have to work for a living even us woofers, I mean, Holly and I do our bit of guarding at night. Every hour and a half we get down off the bed and march around the house inspecting all the doors and cupboards and under the sofa and behind the chairs, just to make sure there are no Nargles or Nifflers doing something they shouldn't be doing!

Holly normally walks in front issuing the commands, like, 'Left paw down a bit' or 'About swivel'!

Then she has to make sure we keep in time, so it is, 'left, right, right, left!'

Tails up we march all over the house and as we inspect behind the curtains we both make a growling noise, just to scare off any intruders.

The Missus always calls out to us, not sure what she says but we are sure it translates into 'Well Done'!

Of course there are times when Holly is marching ahead and stops suddenly but as it is pitch black I don't see her stop light and end up nose first under her tail!

She says I should watch where I'm going, I tell her she needs brake lights on her butt which is big enough to mount truck size lights on.............and that's when the fight starts!

We were out early today 'cos Old Two Legs had to go out to see some customers and drop a load of stuff into the carriers.

If Holly stops suddenly she'll have Eric up her tail and he's got sharp teeth!
We decided that it would be a bit boring going out with him and we appointed TM as official 'Dog Walker' for the afternoon!

OTL didn't arrive back until late but we still gave him the Woofers Welcome, especially as he has sausages tonight, Yumm Yummm!

See you tomorrow!

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret!

Bye Bye to a Brave little Girl.

Hello Woofers.

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret.

Little Miss May has been suffering from Insulinoma for some time now and we have been amazed at how she has put up such a fight.

We thought that she was leaving us last Christmas but she pulled around and even put on some weight with the help of Old Two Legs and a few packs of convalescence powder and a steady supply of Prednisolone which is a steroid medication.

One of the side effects of Insulinoma is fits which May was suffering from with greater regularity.

Today she had a bad series of fits which were upsetting for her as well as painful.

OTL decided that it was time she had a rest from these attacks and telephoned the vet.

Miss May has always been a brave, brave ferret. She would walk beside her sister, Miss April, supporting her on her shoulder if she got tired after coming to the end of her morning walk.

She was always there to cuddle April after the morning rampage and was there by her side when April passed away on the way back from her last morning walk.

When she met Eric for the first time she chased him around the cage something terrible.

After a while she settled down with him and they both enjoyed a happy and loving relationship.

As much as we wanted May to remain with us OTL felt that to keep her with us was not in her interest.

So, we have let her go ahead of us and she is now sleeping in the garden urn where her sister and all the other ferrets are sleeping.

Miss April and Miss May.

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret.

We visit The Hooligans!

Hello Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret here.

Well, it's not the bright sunny morning we were hoping for but the sun was up!

Early morning container carrier.
Well, at least he was up early even though it was a weekend!

We had Eric with us but he didn't want to get down for a run until we got to the long grass, which is his favourite bit!

We had an early lunchtime walk, mainly 'cos we were going to visit Jane and Ian, Paul and Zoe, Martin and Lisa and all the children who couldn't be left at home!

Of course there were the three woofers who we get on with but we are still wary off!

Our walk was a bit wet, seems Old Two Legs didn't check with the rain radar before setting off and he got a little wet, like wot we did!

Mind you, the rain did was the leaves on the trees and helped keep the mossies away!
Under the Fairy Arch!
One thing about Jane and Ian's garden, it's miles long and a woofer could get lost in there for a week!

Ian says there were loads of snakes in the woods, mostly Slow Worms which technically are not snakes but rather lizards wot have lost their legs!

Still, what ever they are, we don't do wriggly things, even if they are lizards!

See you tomorrow!

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret.

Saturday 17 August 2019

A sad day for us all.

Hello Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret here.

Last night Old Two Legs went in to give Miss May her medicine before bedtime.

Monty de Ferret was asleep on the hammock, cuddled up with Miss Wendy, fast asleep.

OTL decided not to wake Monty and instead gave him a little stroke on the back of his neck.

This morning when OTL went in to see the ferrets he found Monty, cold and stiff, he must have died around midnight, still in the same position where he was cuddled up with Wendy.

Monty has been with us fifteen months and he came just after the lovable  Freddy de Ferret passed on.

We took Monty as we heard that he was been bullied by the other ferrets in the cage and he has been thrown out of the bedroom and forced to sleep on his own!

Well, you don't leave a ferret who needed help and even though he got a nip or two from Wendy!

He took some time to settle in with Miss Wendy but after a couple of weeks they were snuggled up together.

When do we get out for play?

Once he had settled down his confidence grew in leaps and bounds and when he was taken on holiday with us in the caravan and found he had a sandy beach that went on forever his character just bloomed!

....and I can dig in it as well?
He became more relaxed with Wendy and soon was having a great time play fighting with her!

Gottcha!
We were not sure of his age when he came to us , possibly six months old, so that plus the fifteen months with us makes him around two years old.

Monty is now resting in the big urn in the garden where all the other ferrets are sleeping, so he won't be alone and OTL often goes out to tell them what's been happening!

Miss May is looking sad and although she like cuddles from OTL you see her wandering around the cage looking for Monty to have a cuddle.

We may see if the Harrietsham Ferret Rescue has a little ferret who is in need of a forever home.

Bye for now.

Bye bye from Monty.

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret.

Friday 16 August 2019

Monty is hanging on but.....

Hi Woofers!

Here we are again, Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy, Eric de Ferret and our little Monty de Ferret.

Old Two Legs is not too happy today, you see he has been trying to get Monty to take food. He has tried the meat paste stuff the vet gave him but Monty struggles like mad and refuses to let it get anywhere near his mouth. So, OTL is left with the convalescence powder in Lactose Free Milk and feeding it via a syringe into the corner of Monty's mouth so he can swallow it and still breath!

Monty is not too happy about that but doesn't struggle so much as the meat paste!

This morning he was down to the vet to get his operation looked at and checked for nasties and none were found, so, that was good.

He was given Betamox mixed with Vitbee, which is the vitamin B12 mixed with Betamox a suspension fluid, just to see if we can get to the point where Monty would want to eat. We know that once he gets to wanting to eat then that will be half of the way back to full health.

The vet was hinting that OTL should be prepared to make a 'decision' on the next visit, which is set for Monday morning first thing.

Our walk this morning looked a bit gloomy over the sea. The rain clouds we have been promised were piling up over the channel!

It's going to get wet!
We arrived at the football field car park and went off for a sniff while OTL locked the car.

Then we heard it, a load of woofing and laughter, it looks like the woofer walking party had arrived!

It was lucky that we were just slightly ahead so we managed to get first go at the sniffs!

Hey! There's a new one here and we might just get a roll if OTL carries on walking!
He didn't, he waited there until we had passed and then followed us mumbling something about smelly woofers and a cold wet shower if we even so much as thought about it!

Us? Roll in a sniff? Never!

Much!

Lunchtime the rain started, not much but enough for us to notice. Eric stayed in the bag until we got around to the long grass which is his favourite bit and he was down and ferreting like a good'n!

OTL didn't have the camera so he had to play with the phone camera which was a bit wobbly!

I just love this grass!
Trouble with Eric, he takes too long getting through the grass, so long that Holly just had to have a rest!

Wake me when he gets here!
OTL has been feeding Monty every three hours and managing to get a whole syringe full down his throat and so far we haven't seen him spitting it out.

Claws crossed, we just need him to feed himself once and then he will be away!

See you all tomorrow!

Thursday 15 August 2019

Monty is still off his food.

Hello Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy, Eric de Ferret and Monty de Ferret here!

Little Monty is still not back to normal yet. Old Two Legs has been trying to get him to eat some special stuff he got from the vet that should help make him feel better. The vet gave him two tins of the stuff plus two syringes.

Now, at first OTL was unsure of the syringes but last night he mixed up a bowl of this stuff, mixed with Royal Canine Convalescence powder and a splosh of Lactose Free Milk. Monty didn't want it, so, using the syringe, OTL managed to get a couple of tubes of the stuff down Monty's throat. He didn't like it and put up a bit of a struggle even though OTL wrapped him up in a towel.

This morning OTL tried a mixture of just the convalescence powder and lactose free milk and once again he struggled like mad trying to get it down Monty's throat!

OTL says that he remembers when he had to give Snowflake some medicine using a syringe but just after he squirted it into her mouth, she shook her head and both OTL and the Vet were covered in the medicine!

That was before we discovered Ferretone!

Yeah, we have tried Ferretone with Monty but he doesn't do Ferretone as much as the other ferrets!

OTL says that it may not be much but he is managing to get some down Monty's throat which is better that nothing!

Miss Wendy keeps cuddling up to Monty and giving him a sniff around his tummy and butt. Then the pair of them creep under the blanket and have a snooze while OTL mixes up some more powder!

It's strange how miss May just loves the stuff and can't get enough but Monty thinks it is poison!

We met up with Olly this morning and told him about Monty. Olly said that he sends his love to Monty and although he rather fancies roast ferret on toast for breakfast he understood about not liking the medicine!

What do you reckon a ferret tastes like, rabbit?
OTL was looking for insects but all he came across was this daytime moth, well, we think it is a daytime moth 'cos we haven't seen a butterfly like it!

Must get the book out and see what this is!
Lunchtime I had a bit of luck, there, on the ground was a brand new shinny tennis ball just waiting to be thrown. OTL spotted me sniffing it and threw it down the path for me. I got a bit fed up later 'cos OTL couldn't throw it that far, what he needs is the throwing stick in the caravan to get some distance!

I'm getting fed up with this, I need a good run not a trot down the path!
The Missus said that there were loads of messages on FaceAche wishing Monty well but as we don't have FaceAche on OTL's computer we can't see them.

Well, a big thank you to all who have send good wishes and mixed with our good wishes we are hoping that he starts eating again 'cos that will be a good sign!

Tomorrow Monty is off to the vet first thing. More news as it comes!

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy, Eric de Ferret and Monty de Ferret.
