Trying To Learn How To Sneak Up On Squirrels!

Hello Woofers!

It's Daisy & Holly back again!

Old Two Legs has been cleaning all his camera stuff today, getting ready for his Scotland trip!

We're not too sure how this Blog will get published with him in Scotland and us in Kent!

I think we will need to have a word with him before he goes!

No problems this morning, we were up good and early and down to The Sea Wall to catch the Sun Rise. We do get some good sun rises over Sheerness but it's the 'Getting Up Early' to catch them that is the problem!

One thing that always holds us back is Holly, you see, she really is not a 'Morning Puppy'. She would rather stay in bed snoozing until about ten thirty, then go for a walk. Me, I'm up before it's light, waking the rest of the house up and am ready to 'Rock & Roll'!

Mind you, I do like an early night and I will often go up to bed after dinner (OTL's) and only wake up for a wee at ten or so and only then if OTL comes and gets me from my nice warm bed!

One of the things about early mornings is that we can see the Sun Rise, which this morning was rich in colour, but not much of it!

A Sheerness Sun Rise!

Once Holly is up, after much grumbling and showing off, she joins in the games along The Sea Wall and this morning we were practising our 'Flying'.

Holly, being the more 'Rotund' of us two, really has trouble getting off the ground but this morning we had a 'First'!

A Flying Holly Dog!
Holly managed to get off the ground and sail along for a bit. She was dead chuffed about getting off the ground and even OTL clapped his hands after she landed!

Holly reckons that the hair cut we had gave her the edge, just enough 'Streamlining' to overcome the 'Drag Coefficient' that prevented her from getting airborne in the past!

Back home to 'Doggy Scoff' and a snooze in OTL's office before our lunch time run!

We asked OTL if we could go back to The Forest 'cos we wanted to do some serious practise for Squirrel Chasing, bless him, he said 'Yes'!

So there we were, noses up and eyes looking out and what happens? OTL starts clicking away and making a terrible noise scaring off all the squirrels!

First Click!
So we told him off and started to stalk around in the bracken, when, just as the sniffs were getting strong.......CLICK!

He did it again!
That was it, Holly and I left him and went further into the forest to 'Do our own Thing'!

Snuffle, Snuffle, Squirrel's Been Here!
While we were investigating a sniff, up OTL wanders, bumbling through the forest like a herd of Heferlumps and says 'Here, Look Wot I've seen!'

Another One!

How does he do it?

Holly says it's just luck and he is just lucky where squirrels are concerned, I'm not so sure, maybe he has a stuffed squirrel that he keeps putting on different branches and photographing when we are not looking!

Holly and I started really looking for them, I mean, double headed lookout to start with!

You Look That Way and I'll Look This!
When that didn't work we went back to tracking by sniffin for them!

Serious Squirrel Sniffin!
That didn't work!

Then OTL spotted a fungi half way up a tree and started snapping away, making more noise and scaring off everything for miles around!

It's Fungi, but Not As We Know It!
We didn't know what this one was and we can't find anything in the book so it may be from Outer Space or Essex!

As we got closer to the gate and the Car Park, OTL was still snapping away at the trees and of course, you know what hides in the trees, other than Birdies?

That's it, Squirrels! So we were keeping a good watch out for any movement made by a nervous squirrel being scared by the camera clicks! OTL was taking his time on this shot 'cos he had to catch the sun bouncing off the tree, or summat!

See The Squirrel?
Well, a very scared squirrel rushed out of the bracken, scared by the noise from OTL's camera. OTL didn't see it 'cos he had the camera up to his eye, but we did!

We flew after the squirrel who made a sharp left hand turn to escape getting caught by us! So we did a hard left hand turn as well, but we bumped into OTL and sent him flying!

There it goes!
As Holly says, 'Oh Dear, What a Shame!'

Maybe OTL will have better luck next time, He, He!

See you tomorrow!

Daisy & Holly

Squirrel Hunting with OTL.

Hi Woofers!

Daisy & Holly here!

It has been quite sunny today, certainly this morning it was getting in our eyes and Old Two Legs was complaining about 'Lens Flair', whatever that is!

As I was sniffin my way along The Sea Wall I could hear Holly singing to herself and it was only when the sun got our of my eyes did I see her dancing along singing 'Do, Do, Do, The Dogtrot'!

Doing The Dogtrot!
She's always practising that dance, not quite sure what she has planned when she masters it!

OTL was all excited about seeing a Little Egret and a couple of Curlew on the mud flats and he took one picture of them together. Holly said it looked like a 'Egret Sandwich'!

Egret Sandwich!
I was busy hunting rabbits but I couldn't find even a recent sniff! Not to be outdone, I started to 'Hunt Mouse'!

Hunting Mouses!
Now these mouses can be real tricky some times. Just when you think you've got one, it runs away through the grass tunnel it has made!

I have tried sneaking up on them and rushing straight at them and finally, jumping down onto them like a fox does!
Jumping like a Fox!

It's no good, I've yet to have any success!

Some times Holly joins in the hunt and we have great fun jumping all over the place chasing them.

Today, we were mooching along and we both heard a big noise like a 'Big Mouse' would make as it scampers through the grass. So, we both headed into the grass, all big and bold and woofing!

Ooops! Sorry Mister!
What did we find? A Woofer having a wee!

So we both said we were sorry, backed out and ran off laughing!

Lunch time we got into the car and headed off to town to deliver some stuff and when we finished OTL said we could go for a walk down The Forest, which was great 'cos now we could hunt some squirrel instead of those mouses!

Well, in we went and charged through the bracken and bushes and the first thing we met was a pair of woofers who told us we would never catch a squirrel making that much noise!

A Bit Quieter Please Girls!
Then he walked over and started to sniff Holly but she was a bit put out by his remarks and turned around and snapped at him.

He jumped back and ran off!

That'll teach him to be so 'Showy Off'!

OTL found some more fungi and was clicking away, so we jumped onto the log and ran up and down watching out for squirrels.

OTL's Fungi
Then Holly spotted what she said was a squirrel hiding on the ground, just behind a big tree.

Look, behind that tree!
So we both sneaked off into the wood and finally found that the 'Squirrel' was in fact a Wood Pigeon turning over some leaves on the ground!

We didn't tell OTL about the pigeon 'cos he'll only call us names and say things like 'Should have gone to Spec Savers'!

Further around the path we came to the area where we have our best success finding squirrels, so we told OTL that he had to be quiet and to stop clicking the camera!

OTL, Quiet Please!
We managed to kick up a couple more Wood Pigeons and chased around with no success.

Then OTL called us over and showed us the picture he had just taken!

What's this called?
Can you tell me what's this called, he said, is it a Pigeon?

We just can't stand show offs!

Well, that was it, all he could do from then on was to keep saying, 'Seen Another'!

Then just to rub it in, he would show us a picture!

How does he do it?

Look, Another One!
We were getting really fed up with him, every couple of  steps we got ' Look, Another One!'

So we told him to go back to fungi and trees and leave the squirrels to us!

So, He Did!

A Tree.
Right at the end of our walk, OTL spotted a squirrel on the ground, just about the time I spotted it.

Off I went and I chased it all around the trees and finally it shot up the tree to safety!

Chaaaaarge!
Trouble is, I can't go vertical and so not only do I have to listen to OTL I also left The Forest with the squirrel laughing at me as well!

It just isn't fair, I think I will have to go to climbing lessons and learn how to climb trees!

Back home and a bowl of Lambs Heart will help me forget squirrels, providing OTL keeps his mouth shut!

Fat Chance!

See you tomorrow!

A Woofing Good Day

Hello Woofers!

Daisy & Holly here!

Last night was a little jumpy for Holly, we were going to take her out in the car if there were too many Whizz Bangs,  but as the evening wore on we decided to lock ourselves in Old Two Legs office and turn the TV on to block out the noises. Holly had a cuddle with OTL then went to sleep on his desk top with her head in his hand!

A Nice Warm Pillow!
After all the Whizz Bangs had finished we went to bed and Holly still wanted a cuddle! She is a big baby really!

Today, no Whizz Bangs and the sun is shining again, so, off to The Sea Wall for a run around and woof at the birds.

Holly said that if she found any more Whizz Bang Bags, she was going to wee on all of them!

Looking for Whizz Bangs to Wee on!
She never did find any but it was good to see her laughing again after being scared!

OTL was looking for interesting things to photograph but the sun was too strong and too low and all the interesting stuff was still in bed!

I can see another trip down to The Forest coming up if we are lucky!

Hey! OTL! I'm interesting!
Unfortunately, we were sort of unlucky, no Forest walks for us today, instead we went to The New Park!

We met up with a little Terrier who we have seen before, so to say 'Hello', we all had a 'Group Sniff'

Group Sniffin!
Just as we finished a young pup of a Staffy came bounding up shouting 'Let's Play Chase!' So, we did our normal run around and sniffin and Bella, that's her name, was saying that she didn't get off the lead very often, which was obvious by way she was tearing about all over the park!

Let's play Chase, please!
We left Bella in the 'Training Area' totally ignoring what he owner was saying, which is normal for a youngster!

We still ignore OTL, when the sniff is good enough!

It was good fun running around the park and OTL kept us away from the Swimming Hole 'cos he said that we would be too cold if we went in there and to be honest, we agreed with him this time!

Getting near to the car we met up with a big Alsatian, I mean, he was big, really big and he had a face that wasn't really like Alsatians.

He said his name was Buzz and he used to be a Police Dog but he has now retired from 'The Force'.

My name's Buzz!
Holly asked how did he get the name Buzz? Well, says Buzz, it's because when I was being trained for my job, I would enjoy it so much I was buzzing about all over the place!

He said that he had some serious Wolf DNA and if you look at his ears and muzzle you can see that they are not Alsatian!

We said we were Terriers and had loads of different DNA in us, that's why we are good at Terrierising rabbits and squirrels!

He thought that was funny and wandered off to carry on his walk!

Back home we had to finish off the Doggy Scoff before The Missus would give us our treat, a chew for Holly and a Chicken Fillet for me!

We have yet to mug OTL for his dinner, so claws crossed, he may get some steak tonight!

See you tomorrow!

Daisy & Holly

Monday's Sun Day

Hi Woofers!

Daisy & Holly here!

Last night was not as bad as we thought it would be, there were a few Whizz Bangs and Holly got a bit twitchy but she had a cuddle with The Missus and then with Old Two Legs and he put a jumper, which belongs to TM, on top of Holly.

TM and OTL all wrapped around Holly soon calmed her down!

This morning when we went out to The Sea Wall, it was all sunshine and wind!

A bit cold 'cos that wind was coming off the sea but we had a run and a chase and that kept us warm!

Keeping Warm!
We found a load of plastic bags, thrown on the ground and OTL said it was packets which held the Whizz Bangs, so Holly and I did a wee on them, just to get our own back!

As Holly said, 'Pity we didn't get to do that last night, then they wouldn't have been able to light them!'

She is such a Wag that Holly!

Lunch time comes and it is still sunny, so OTL asks if we want a walk, then says, 'The Forest?'

Silly OTL!

In no time we were out of the door and sitting by the car door!

Down The Forest it was a bit quaggy, well, we have had some rain over the last few days!

The first thing that happens as we get through the gate was a meeting with George and Cyril, who we met some time ago.

We get on well with them 'cos they are the same size as us!

Up there, on the left, two sniffs and another a bit further on!
They told us of some good sniffs and off we went!

I was really interested in squirrels, so, I climbed up on a fallen tree and had a good scout around.

Here, Squirrel Squirrels!
 I didn't see any!

OTL was doing his favourite thing, hunting fungi!

OTL's First Fungi!
Holly and I were hunting sniffs and there were some interesting ones around the back of the pond.

OTL said it looked super with the colours of fallen leaves and the pond reflection as well!

Autumn's here!
OTL found some fungi on a rotting tree and when the sun shone through the trees it made the colours really stand out! So, he got down on his knees and started to photo the fungi.

That was OK until Holly said she wanted to get in the photo as well!

This is my Best Side!
Then we found a very big fungi growing out the side of a fallen log thing that was rotting away. OTL didn't know what the fungi was called but said he will look it up in his new book when he gets home!

Strange looking one this!
He was getting all excited 'cos he found another under some bracken, well, Holly and I were getting a bit fed up with all this fungi stuff, so we told him that now it was time to Hunt Squirrel!

Last of the days fungi!
Holly and I hunted all over the place, we searched the bushes and the trees and the leaves on the ground then we stood on a log and kept very quiet and waited for squirrel noises!

I can't hear a thing!
OTL says that there was one over the back of us but we told him we had looked there and we couldn't see any at all.

He insisted there was one there and to prove it he would take a photo!

Yer, Right, off he went doing his Hunting Walk and clicked off a couple of shots.

Beginners Luck!
We will never hear the end of this, he spots one and we don't!

Oh! The Shame of it all!

OTL finds a squirrel while we look the other way watching leaves falling down to the ground!

Back home he kept telling TM about him finding the squirrel and us looking the wrong way, it's just not fair!

Tonight we may have to take Holly out for a drive in the big car, it all depends on how many Whizz Bangs there are going off around our area. Claws crossed it will be to cold for everyone to stand in the garden setting fire to piles of leaves and sticks!

See you tomorrow!

Too Wet to Wee!

Hello Woofers!

A Damp Daisy & Holly here with you again!

It seems that it has been raining all night and most of the day!

We went down with The Missus first thing and stuck our noses out of the door, turned around and went back to bed!

It was raining!

Later, after Old Two Legs had got up, showered and dressed, he uttered those magic words, Walkies!

The excitement dropped away as soon as he got our coats out, coats equal cold or rain and as it didn't feel cold the only other thing could be rain.

We got our coats on and OTL got his boots and coat on, with the hood that keeps him dry and then he put the coat on the camera, the one that keeps that dry.

Then he opens the front door.

It was raining!

We rushed to the car and quickly jumped inside, Holly said that it may stop when we get to The Sea Wall.

It didn't.

It was still raining!

We ran across the Car Park and onto the grassy path.

It was still raining!

We had a sniff and a wee while OTL squelched off down the path to the Sea Wall.

Holly said that she had no intention of getting soaked and wanted to go back home, she'll have a poo later!

I followed OTL down the path a bit but decided to let him know I wanted to go home!

It was still raining!

OTL, I Don't want to go any further!
OTL stopped, turned around and started to walk towards me, that was the sign, he wanted to go back as well!

I'm off!

Come on, race you back!
I spotted Holly back down the path and woofed 'Back to The Car'! That was it, she didn't need a second telling!

Back to the car Holly!
I got closer and she looked around and said 'Hurry up, I can feel the rain trickling down my tail!'

My tails wet!
On we trotted, through the puddles, yuk!

And it was Still Raining!

We don't like puddles!
Holly turns towards the car park, 'Come on Girl' she calls, I can see the car!

I see the car!
When we got back in, OTL took our coats off and gave us a good rub down with the towel, the back door was open and we stood on the parcel shelf. As we were getting dried, another car parked up and a couple of Terrier types were let out of the car, we could see they were not impressed with the rain at all!

So, we woofed our, 'Hello Woofers!' call and told them they were going to get soaked!

They didn't look too happy about that and still it rained!

Back home to another rub down and a brush before getting our Lambs Heart breakfast' and then off for a snooze before lunch time and the F1 racing!

We watched the first three or so laps of the racing but then decided it would be a 'Good Idea' if we went out again!

This time the rain had stopped, we hoped, long enough for us to get a walk down on The Sea Wall, so, off we went in the car splashing through all the puddles on the road.

When we got down there, we were in for a shock, the local Sea Angling Society was holding a competition on who could catch the most/biggest fish from the shore.

We bumped into the first fisherman who looked at Holly and said 'NO!' Seems like he has met Holly before!

No! Clear Off!
Oooooo! Says Holly, 'Who's the Grumpy One today?'!

So we ran down the Sea Wall and stopped at another fisherman who had his bait out on the path. No, as Holly says, 'Anything on the floor is everyone's' and proceeded to sniff it prior to tasting it. But she didn't bite it 'cos it sniffed 'orrible!

Yuck........Squid!
Our Holly is a trier though and at the next fisherman she did the old 'Got any Food Mister?' but he wasn't even going to answer Holly, seems his mate had told him about her quest for sandwiches!

Got any Food Mister?
Then we turned the corner, there were hundreds of them as far as the eye could see!

Well, loads anyway!

Loads and Loads of them!
There was one who was all friendly and called to us both and then he moved to stroke Holly behind the ears but Holly asked, 'Got any Food Mister?' and when he said 'No' she said,
 'No Food, No Strokes!'

No Food! No Strokes!
We left them to get on with getting cold 'cos the wind had got up, so it was time to get back to the car and the warm heater!

Come on, Home, it's getting cold!

TM said it was a very exciting F1 race, so OTL is going to watch the repeat at seven tonight, after dinner.

So we have that to look forward to, plus some nibbles I'm sure he will have on the table beside him!

Bye bye for now!

Daisy & Holly

A Saturday without OTL

Hi Woofers!

Daisy & Holly here with you again!

After yesterdays fun and games, today has been a bit 'Slow' if you know what I mean.

Old Two Legs stayed in bed all night long, no falling out!

The alarm went off at five thirty for him to get up and go to work. Well, I must admit it was very tempting to just roll over and go back to sleep!

Instead, I got up and went into the office while he got ready to go out and do some work this morning!

Holly stayed in bed, you see Holly is not a 'Morning' dog!

It was sad to see him go at six, but the sooner he got the work done the quicker he would be back!

The Missus took us out for our walk this morning, over The Fields, but we didn't go all the way around, just half way. That's 'cos she saw some dogs coming the other way looking twice as muddy as Archie did yesterday and after us having a wash down she didn't want us to get too yucky!

Back home TM gave us a brush, not exactly the sort of going over that OTL does, but it cleaned off the dried bits of mud that had got onto our legs!

Then we got breakfast, Doggy Scoff' Yuk, Yuk and Double Yuk!

That was it, no OTL and Doggy Scoff as well.

We were not 'Happy Puppy's!

So, off we went, to sleep the morning away until OTL came back, and back he came at about one thirty!

He tried to sneak in the front door without us hearing, what a Plonker, there is no way anything gets through the front door without us knowing!

Well, we gave him a big super Welcome Home lick and in my excitement, I managed to scratch him on his top lip and made it bleed!

I said sorry and we carried on licking and woofing hello!

Well, after a bit of lunch we jumped up and sat on his lap and gave him the old 'Hairy Eyeball' which was another way of saying 'Walkies!'

Down we went to The Sea Wall and although it was a bit windy, the sun was out and it wasn't so cold.

Which was just as well 'cos we didn't have our coats on!

OTL made us sit down together so he could take a photo, a sort of  'Us After', after a bit of messing about we finally relented and sat still for five seconds, which we thought was long enough to make a full length feature film, never mind take a couple of snaps!

Us Afterwards!
We didn't meet any other dogs while we were out, so it was just a case of 'Catch Up on The Sniffs'!

Even OTL couldn't find any fungi, but he looked out to sea and saw a sailing boat go past, so, switching the camera controls around he took a 'Blue' picture of the boat.

I suppose it's alright if you like that sort of thing but it doesn't turn us on!

Sailing By!
Tonight we are having venison, well OTL is and we are going to mug him good and proper and if we don't get our fill, I suppose it's back to the Doggy Scoff afterwards!

Early night tonight, we got to help OTL do some gardening tomorrow, providing it doesn't rain!

Bye for now, see you tomorrow!

Luv,

Daisy & Holly

A Little Bit Off The Back Please!

Hi Ho Woofers!

Daisy & Holly here and Looking Good, sort of!

Last night was a Scream!

About half three, Holly and I were in our beds, sleeping our 'Night Time Sleep' when we heard Old Two Legs mumbling away, just a little louder than normal. Now, this is a sign that he is dreaming, that means he could burst into song or start shouting or jumping about or even running. Well this time it was the 'Jumping About' bit!

Actually, it was 'Jumping About and Rolling Off The Bed and Shouting 'Geronimo'!

Suddenly we were descended upon by an OTL all wrapped up in the duvet!

It scared the tail off us both to have OTL land in your basket in the middle of the night!

We could hear The Missus telling him off, for pinching the duvet off her!

I jumped up and gave him a good 'Wake Up' licking in his ear and Holly just grumbled, picked up her carrot and wandered off down stairs to finish her sleep off on the sofa!

Seems that OTL was dreaming he was beside a swimming pool and he rolled off the side of the pool into the water, only it wasn't, it was our beds!

That OTL is getting worse as he gets older, maybe he needs to get wormed, that'll sort him out!

All this means we were a little bit late getting up but at least we weren't descended upon any more!

A quick run down on The Sea Wall and then off to the Parlour!

Holly Before.
Me Before.

Us, before the Shampoo & Set

Now, don't get me wrong, we do look 'The Business' when we come out but Holly and me agree that having someone other than OTL giving us a wash all over is a bit off putting, at least OTL warms his hands first!

After lunch, which we didn't get, OTL came to pick us up. We looked like 'Stars' and we sniffed like perfume factory!

OTL knew what we wanted, so as he had to drop off some stuff, we went to the Riverside Park, it was great. Being let off the lead, Holly and I first of all paddled in the mud, then we had a roll in the seaweed and after that we walked in every muddy puddle we could find!

So, you haven't got the 'After' photo, well not the real one, we will have to get OTL to take that tomorrow after he comes back from work!

I can show you a preview, this is me sleeping off my dinner, Lambs Heart and biscuits!

You will notice the lack of hair!

Just Snoozed Out!
Sorry it's in Black and White but OTL didn't check the settings on the camera before snapping away!

We had to spend some time getting washed and dried after our 'Paddle' but at least we don't sniff of perfume, just doggy shampoo!

I don't think we will be mugging OTL for any dinner tonight, our tummies are too full!

See you tomorrow!

Luv,

Daisy & Holly
