Chasing Barn Owls

Hi There!

Daisy & Holly back with you again.

Being Sunday, we get up a little later than normal, four thirty is just about right for Sunday! We sneak onto Old Two Legs side of the bed and give his ear a lick, just to show him we are awake and if he fancies a run across the fields, we're ready.

Normally  he carries on sleeping, lazy OTL!

We went with him to the DIY shop to get some bits for the grass cutter that The Missus is trying to wear out. We stayed in the car and woofed at everyone who came close to us. There was one woman who pulled a face at us, so we wrinkled our noses back and blew raspberries until she went away!

On the way back, we stopped at Northwood Hill, another RSPB site where OTL has got dispensation to bring us on site, providing he clears up after us and we stay on the lead.

He was having a look to see if the Barn Owls were in residence and raising a family. There was no sign of movement and we couldn't find and RSPB management around to ask questions. So, OTL plans to return later tonight and set up his big lens and try to photograph the owls as they fly in and out of the barn.

Then we went onto Cliffe Pools RSPB site and drove all the way down a long and bumpy road. It was horrible, slowly going up and down and up and down and up and down and side to side at the same time.

I was sea sick!

All down the outside of the door, 'cos I was hanging out the window at the time woofing at a Wood Pigeon that was sitting on the telephone wire!

OTL Cleared it all up, and me!

Holly and me had a chance for a run around when OTL stopped for a look over the ponds, but, as he said, 'Nothing Startling Here'!

No birds, lets have a chase!
Then we went onto The Farm for a quick run and a wee. It had to be quick 'cos it started to rain!

Later we went back to Northwood Hill and waited for the Barn Owl, and we waited and waited and waited and got fed up.

The only thing that OTL saw was a Whitethroat and the sun was disappearing and it was almost dark.

Whitethroat
For those who are into this stuff, OTL tells me it was 1/800 sec at f/4 and ISO 6400 using a 600mm f/4 lens. This is what it looks like straight from the camera!

Find the Whitethroat!
Well that was us for the evening, we got back and crashed out in our beds and didn't wake up until OTL told us it was time for a wee!

See you tomorrow.

To Tudeley and beyond!

Hello Woofers,

D&H back again.

What a day! Old Two Legs has spent most of the morning banging and crashing around in the loft doing repairs to the plumbing!

One of the 'jobs' on the long list he gets from The Missus each week, is to fix the dripping overflow on the tank in the loft.

OTL is not safe with water, even when he washes the car or caravan he normally ends up soaking wet, so, playing about with a water system inside the house is full of danger!

Last year he went to turn off the water at the mains before going on holiday and snapped the handle off the tap, so, emergency plumbers, OTL and water don't mix well in this house and normally end up costing him money!

Cutting a long tail short, he managed to install a new thingy and the overflow has stopped dripping and we didn't get a waterfall of water down the stairs or see the house float off down the street!

To celebrate this success, OTL decided to go out to a new place and watch for birds.

He has located a RSPB site at Broadwater Warren, near Tunbridge Wells where he thinks there could be Nightjars lurking! Trouble is, it's new and there are no signs pointing to it and the car parking is limited and the road doesn't show up on the Sat Nav.

Yep, that's right, we didn't find it and OTL's hay fever didn't help either, he gets all 'Grumbly' when he starts sneezing. He got all Showy Off AND Grumbly, turned the car around and went off to Tudeley Woods, which was near, and on the Sat Nav!

Now Tudeley Woods is not a place to get lost in, it is dense undergrowth and a pine plantation. Just to be a spoil sport, OTL kept us on our lead all the time, well the RSPB Manager said that dogs aren't allowed but as we were such well behaved puppies and OTL had a pocket full of poo bags we could go on the site but we had to stay on the lead.

Off we went, sniffing away but there were no doggy sniffs, foxes, yes, squirrels, yes, two legs, yes but very little doggy smells. So we added a few of our own, except that OTL picked them up in the poo bags, but we got away with a wee or two!

No Doggy Smells!
There were some rhododendron bushes scattered around in the woods, the flowers help break up the green and brown of the trees and OTL just had to stop and take a picture, or two!

Rhododendron

Or Three!

Rhododendron in the woods.
We startled a squirrel and chased him up a tree but we know from experience that once they are up the tree then it's not worth chasing them any more, so we let him go with just a warning that we were around!

We had a good four mile walk around the woods and by the time we got back all hot and thirsty and worn out. We slept all the way home, waking just in time to rush in and eat our dinner!

Not the most exciting day, but we did get out to a new place and leave our mark before any other dogs had got there!

Off to sleep now, see you tomorrow!

Musical Friday

Hello All!

D&H back again on a very warm Friday!

Boy, has it been warm today, we were up good and early chasing cats away from the front garden, they were howling and making more noise than the fighting foxes the other night!

It was so bad that The Missus had to get up and growl at them!

Being up so early meant that we got an early walk as well and when we got back Old Two Legs was still in bed snoring!

Today has been spent around the house and out with OTL delivering stuff.

We stopped off at The Forest and had a run around but it was just too hot for serious running so we were glad to be back in the car and the air conditioning!

Luxury or wot!

As we were driving about, OTL put on a CD of the music of Lord of the Rings. It is mostly orchestral music so we were all Oooo'ing to the melody.

It was fun, OTL sounded like someone had stepped on his tail, if he had one!Holly and me managed to Ooo in close harmony, in fact we are getting very good at singing, unlike OTL.

We think that music is not one of his best talents!

OTL didn't take his camera out today so we can't show you what we did, but, TM wants him to put on the picture he took last Christmas of both Holly and me 'cos she reckons that was the best one yet.

So, here it is.

Daisy & Holly

I think I look good in this one!

We are expecting to go out tomorrow after OTL has finished his chores but we have not decided on exactly where, yet.

Holly and I will have a chat tonight before we get to sleep and let OTL know, maybe, before it gets light!

See you soon.

A Dragonfly for OTL!

Yo Woofers!

D&H back again and looking forward to the weekend.

We went out with The Missus this morning and bumped into Norrie and Jane, for the second time this week. Norrie is a big soppy long haired type of Labrador dog who gets all excited when she sees Old Two Legs and rolls on her back to have her tummy tickled!

When we got back OTL gave us our brush and as a reward he gave us a Doggy Choccy Drop together with the worming tablet. Now come on, just how daft does he think we are?

Choccy drop gone, spit out tablet!

Just to get his hopes up, we lick the tablet a couple of times, well, he did go to the extra expense of getting a 'Flavoured' Worming Tablet, in fact the taste was something like Marmite! Which is not all bad but you couldn't live on it all the time!

We went out at lunch time and had a run around the Riverside Park, not very long 'cos OLT had to deliver some stuff in Dartford, which was OK really 'cos on the way back, The New Park, again!

We had a good run there and said hello again, to the now bald Not Not Neddies!

Bald Not Not Neddies
They couldn't get away 'cos we sneaked up on them, so after woofing 'hello' they whistled and stamped their feet and got all 'showy off', so we blew another raspberry and ran off to the swimming hole where OTL started taking pictures of a Dragonfly that was flying all over the place!

Southern Hawker, we think!
On the way back, we stopped at the Not Not Neddies again and saw what a mess they looked after they had their haircut, Holly reckons they should had asked for their money back cos they looked worse than sheep after they've had their hair cut, and that's really bad!

Baldy!
Let's face it, if we came back from our hair cut like that OTL would have a thing or two to say!

Getting back to the Worming Tablets, we've had some fun. It took OLT a half an hour to make sure I had swallowed all the tablet. He tried giving it whole, wrapped in some liver, then cut in half, wrapped in some liver and finally, crushed and spread over some liver!

Holly took the whole tablet, wrapped in some liver and swallowed it down in one go, but she has always been a greedy puppy!

Friday tomorrow, half day and an adventure, providing it's not too hot!

Bye the way, we hope Jaspers ear has got better and that he has not turned into a cat, you have to be careful when eating cat food, you start looking at birds and thinking, 'I bet that tastes nice'!

Bye for now!

Luv,

Daisy & Holly

A day in the park

Hello Woofers,

Daisy & Holly here again.

What a wonderful day it is, sun shine everywhere, Holly has been in the garden catching up on her tan and I've been burying her bone in the flower bed, but don't tell The Missus or I'll be in deep poo!

We were just lazing about when Old Two Legs gets a phone call, it was TM calling to say that she was just down the road and she had brought The Boys with her to see us.

Well, there we were sitting at the bedroom window watching out for her and getting all excited and woofing and jumping up and down.

Then they arrived, it was a mad few minutes saying 'Hello' to everyone and woofing and running around the house.

OTL retired to the office where he was playing with some radio stuff and we had a snooze on our day beds.

There was a 'Ding Dong' from his computer and a message flashed onto the screen, it said 'Daisy & Holly to the vets for Worming Tablet', oh no, not the worming tablet game again!

It's always good fun this is, OTL tries to get us to swallow the tablet and we keep spitting it out!

This means OTL has to try loads of different foods he can hide the tablet in so we won't notice. Does he think we are that stupid? We can smell a Worming Tablet a mile away!

The Boys arrived and after a bit of lunch we all went off vet for the Worming tablets and then onto The New Park.

It was great, loads of other dogs and we had a run up and down the hill, at least The Boys are faster at running than OTL!
Kicking up Dust!
We stopped at the swimming hole for a paddle to cool off, we didn't go swimming 'cos there were other dogs jumping in and splashing everyone!

A Cool Paddle
Then The Boys decided to have a paddle and Holly suggested a swim but they said no because it was too deep. Holly said it wasn't deep as it only came half way up a duck, but they didn't believe her!

What about a swim?
What with all the splashing going on, we went over the bridge and I pretended I was flying again!

A Flying Doggy!

We wanted to see down into the field where the Not Not Neddies lived but we couldn't see that far, so, we did our trick of 'Pick us up OTL' and he did!

Then we could see into the field!

Left a bit OTL!
Over in the next field we saw the Not Not Neddies and woofed a 'Hello' but they just stamped their foot and whistled at us, so Holly and me blew a big raspberry that made OTL jump and nearly drop us!!

A bald Neddy!
Another fun day over, we are going to bed early tonight and think of somewhere to go tomorrow.

See you soon.

Back to Work again

Yo Woofer Mates!

Daisy & Holly here again!

We've had a very busy day today. The Missus has gone off to baby sit The Boys, sorry, Child Mind, The Boys. Half Term Holiday and all that! So we are here helping Old Two Legs get all his work done. On his desk is a big pile of paper that he has to do things with and then hide in draws and after many years, he puts it all in the paper shredder.

Why he doesn't do that in the first place I really don't know, it would save a lot of shelf space in the cupboard!

We started off with our normal walk and 'after walk snooze', you know, it can really set you up for the day having a snooze after waking up from the night time snooze!
We left OTL playing with the papers while we snoozed!

After Get Up Snooze.
After a while we were woken by the smell of OTL making tea, and, you know what goes with tea? Yes, biscuits! In fact Cookies! We always mug OTL for a bit of his biscuit, before he dips it in his tea!

After that it was a run down to the post and off to The Farm for a run and chase after the rabbits and foxes.

Well we didn't see any foxes and all we saw of the rabbits was a pile of poo. So we had a chew but OTL shoo'ed us away before more that just a nibble. He really is a spoil sport sometimes!

Holly found a pile of logs and pretended she was a Lumberjack and ran around shouting Timber!
Holly the Lumberjack

We ran up and down the hills, it was great fun and when I was running down the hill I found that I could jump up in the air and travel twice the distance I can on the flat, flying or wot!

I'm Flying!
On the way back we met up with a youngster that was only a few months old, a real cuddly puppy that had a drink from our water bowl when we got back to the car. You just don't know how welcome that drink is in this hot weather!

Hello young lad!
Tomorrow OTL says we will see The Boys when we go down to the New Park, we hope so, well they can run a little faster that OTL!

See you tomorrow!

Bank Holiday Monday Fun

Hello all you Woofers,

A Happy Bank Holiday to you all!

We've been busy little puppies today, loads of running about and helping Old Two Legs and exploring new places!

First of all, we got up early and after our walk with The Missus across the fields we helped OTL load up the car with even more rubbish that was destined for the rubbish tip. Including the Clothes Iron that TM set alight the other day!

When we finished,OTL said we were going to a new place, a place we had not been to before!

We sat up front of the car and watched all the signs as we got closer, it was a place called Teston Country Park, down by the river Medway.

When we got there we had a super run about in the field by the car park, you know OTL had to pay loads of money just to park the car there while we went for a wander! He was muttering things about robbers and crooks!

Teston Bridge over the River Medway
We started off by going down river, but had to turn back 'cos in the field were a load of Heifers that looked like they could tread on us puppies, so we turned around and went up stream past the boat lock.

We pulled faces at some swans that were swimming near the pontoon and they hissed at us, you know I thought that Mute Swans didn't make any noise!

A Hissing Cobb!
Holly blew a couple of raspberries and we ran off, straight into the paws of Peter, a funny looking Labrador who was the same age as us, eighteen months but he was three times our size!

Hello Peter!
We said hello and had a sniff, then we wandered off along the bank again.

When we got back to the field we had a little rest and for fun, Holly jumped onto the table and told OTL to fetch her chicken strips, well, it was worth a try!

Fetch me my Lunch!
On the way home we dropped into the Riverside Park and OTL got us to sit still while he took a photo of us both. Not the best photo we've seen but worth putting on the blog!

D&H
Back to work again tomorrow, I suppose that means we have to catch up on missed sleep, what with all this running about we've been doing!

See you tomorrow!

Sunday Fun

Hi Woofers!

Daisy & Holly back again.

We've been out with Old Two Legs this morning, walking over the fields, reading the notice board, seeing who has been up there lately.

By the time we'd got half way along the path, we've done all our business and filled OTL's little black plastic bags!

We decided that we wanted to have a look around above the Rape and Linseed plants. So, I did my normal, 'Two Front Paws in the Back of OTL's Knee' trick and he stopped to find out what I wanted. He crouched down and I put my paws up on his leg to show I wanted to be picked up. Holly, having enjoyed a shoulder carry when we were on holiday, had her front paws on his other leg.

Well, to cut a long story short, we were both up on OTL's shoulders looking at the world from six feet two inches above ground. OTL walked a little way but then stopped and slowly turned around in a circle three times so we can see what there is across the fields.

Sunday morning there were no dog walkers or horse riders just birds. In fact there were several skylarks and some gulls, a few crows, loads of sparrows in the bushes and a couple of Chaffinches having a fight!

Back home we got a good brush and snooze, Holly got the prime position on the bed, as usual!

Prime Position for a Snoozett!
While OTL did some of his chores we had our early morning snooze.

You know the chore list is so long and OTL says he's got more interesting things to do, like taking us for adventures and bird watching and photographing interesting things and drinking whisky and going on holiday, he just doesn't know when he'll have time for all the chores!

One thing we did have time for and that was the F1 racing, it was an exciting race and afterwards Holly and I raced around the garden and the lounge pretending to be Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel, stopping only for pit stops and when The Missus shouted at us, we called that the Safety Car 'cos it didn't last for long!

We went out for a run afterwards down the Sea Wall and had fun picking out the sniffs that were blowing in from the town.

We smell Hot Dogs!
We spotted a fisherman who was looking for his worms, you know, the one he has taught to swim, by the way he was digging we reckon that the worm has escaped!

Looking for his pet worm!
We had a laugh at him and headed for home where The Missus should be preparing dinner, chicken or liver or lamb but not dog food, we hope!

See you all tomorrow, it's Bank Holiday so we are expecting OTL to take us out on an adventure, maybe to Canterbury for a run around The Marsh!

See you tomorrow!

Luv,

Daisy (Button) & Holly (Vettel)

Saturday down on The Farm

Hello All,

We're here again!

It's been a fun day today, we've been helping Old Two Legs take a load of stuff down the council dump and of course after the visit, what was near? Yes, it's The Farm!

We got all excited and couldn't wait to get out the car, we started woofing and scrabbling to get out. Somehow I managed to dial home on the car telephone and we got OLT saying no one was in and leave a message, so we did, we all blew raspberries!

Finally we all fell out of the car and raced off to the woods.

To the Woods!
There were great sniffs and Holly reckons she found a Badgers scent wafting through the bushes but we couldn't find the badger anywhere and we both had a very long look, in fact so long that OTL was getting all steamed up, jumping up and down and whistling for us, Gawd! It really spoils the fun of the chase when he calls us back!

Back from 'The Chase'!
So, this time we didn't get lost 'cos OTL is keeping is eye on us!

When we turned right to go over a railway bridge, he called us back! He's getting just too bossy!
A Bridge Too Far
We ran off down the hill and bumped into a couple of walkers who were climbing up the path, Holly woofed and I joined, just to help her out, then we ran past them and rushed off laughing!

Woofing at the Walkers
Well, we laughed all the way back to the car.

Laughing on the way back!

Then we sang songs in the car, all the way back home, and on the way I called The Missus on the car phone to let her know we were on our way and to get dinner ready!

She said I was a 'Bossy Little Puppy' and she was going to sell us to the Dogs Home for tuppence when I got home.

I didn't believe her, well, who as going to wake her up in the morning if we're not there?

See you tomorrow!

Fire! Fire! Fire!

Hi Fans,

Daisy & Holly here with you again.

Today we started off with some fun.

After our walk and a brush we decided to creep off to Old Two Legs office for our normal 'after get up snooze'. We had just got our heads down and were drifting off into that soft dreamy world that occurs before 'real' sleep sets in when we heard The Missus shouting out for OTL.

Fire! FIRE! Fire!!!!

Well, OTL went down stairs at a good gallop, followed by Holly and me but not getting too close in case we got caught up in the inferno that was developing.

What we found was TM standing next to the clothes iron which was smoking like an old factory chimney!

OTL grabbed the iron and headed for the kitchen door. Once out in the garden he put it down and put a plastic bucket under the tap, turned the tap on and started to fill the bucket.

The iron was still simmering nicely, smoke still exiting all the 'steam holes', by now the bucket was getting full so OTL picked up the iron and dropped it into the bucket, with the water still pouring over the iron.

Well, the iron did not like this and started to hiss and spit steamy water all over the place, so we all backed off and let it get on with it!

Hot & Steamy!
OTL saves the day again, but he has now got to buy a new iron for TM and that will hurt!

Holly says that TM set light to the iron because she didn't want to do any ironing today and would rather sit watching the motor racing and making cards, but I wouldn't be so cynical!

Or, maybe I would, that TM is so sneaky!

OTL had to deliver some work stuff so we all went out with him, there was Holly and me and TM!

We went out so we can get a walk in the New Park but we were not sure why TM came with us!

First of all we had a sniff then we got down to the Tee Pee and went inside but there was a lot of noise outside and Holly said that it was the Indians coming back for lunch, so we had a look outside but didn't see them, so, while they were still over the hill, we got out, fast!
What's that Noise?
Next we went down to the swimming hole and as there was no one there, we had a little paddle, Holly said she saw a fish swim in front of her but I think she was telling porkies!

It was a Big Fish, honest!
We had a little splash around and we both got wet tummies, then Holly asked 'The Question'

Here, she said, you know other dogs play in here, yes, says I, well, she says,

'Do you think they wee in here?'

Yuk!

Well we didn't hang about and were out and running around to get dry in no time!

After the walk we found out why TM was with us, she got OTL to buy another electric steam iron, wonder how long before she blows it up!

While we were there, we happened to notice that the Doggy Shop was just next door!

Well, that was a good thing, 'cos we dragged OTL in and took him up to the Bone Counter, yep, OTL fell for it and out we came with a bag of bones and some chicken strips!

We saw some live rabbits in a plastic sort of box room, with all their toys and food and water, Holly wanted OTL to buy a couple for dinner tonight but he said they weren't for eating!

We are set for this evening, OTL with his shortbread and whisky and us with our bones and chicken strips!

This is how the weekend should start!

See you tomorrow.
Luv

Daisy & Holly (all wee'd out!)
