Still Trying!

Hi Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret here!

More fun and games today. As you know, yesterday we were trying to get Eric and Wendy together which resulted in some loud screams from Wendy and Eric being chased all over the place.

Well, Old Two Legs decided that over night he would put them back in their own cages, for safety's sake and so we can all get a nights sleep!

This morning it all started again.

A bowl with some Ferretone was put down and both ferrets placed either side of the bowl, two ferrets slurping away all peaceful like, until the oil had gone then Miss Wendy flew at Eric, tried to grab his neck and they were rolling around..............and that's when the fight started. More howling and screaming from Wendy. It sounded like a War Cry mixed with a Battle Cry but the funny thing was, it was Wendy who was doing the attacking and making all the noise!

Talking of noise, Holly and I were on the bed enjoying a teeth cleaning chew when Eric wandered into the bedroom. Holly, being very protective of her food decided to call OTL in to get Eric out of the bedroom!

Now, there are several 'woofs' we woofers have, like there is the 'Clear Off or I'll Sort You Out'!

Then there is 'I Wanna Go Out For A WEEEE'!

The best is ...'There's a Cat in the Garden and I Want To Eat It!!!!!!!!!

Today it was another woof, it was............

'He's in here, He's in here, He's in here, He's in here!'

OTL wandered into the bedroom and found Eric half way up the duvet trying to get onto the bed!

That was it, Eric gets thrown out of the bedroom and Holly and I went back to sleep, cuddling our chews!

So, that was it, Eric went looking for Wendy and she went looking for a safe place to hide!

After cleaning the cages Eric climbed into the cuddle cup and OTL noticed that Eric had one eye closed, looks like he got a black eye from Wendy!

We'll have a look at it after he wakes up later.

Eric came out with us this morning, the sun was out and so were the nasty little midge type insects, OTL was walking about with the hood of his jacket up over his head!

Not that they bothered Holly or Eric, we are used to little insects!

No insects here!
When we got to the beach Eric said he could do with a bit of a sun bathe, a bit like Old Freddy, he just loved rolling on his back to catch a few rays!

Anyone got some Factor 35?
We only had one little spat this morning but OTL was there like a shot and kept them apart. As normal, it was little Miss Wendy who started it off, a howling scream then she shot across the cage after Eric. She was stopped halfway across the cage and redirected back under her blanket!

She was not happy and stayed under the blanket mumbling and grumbling at OTL!

Lunchtime OTL took her out with us, mainly 'cos she would be tired after a run along the seafront in the warm sunshine and less likely to attack Eric'

....and when I get back I'll bounce him out of the cage!
Well that didn't work, she threw Eric out of the cuddle cup and he had to go on one of the hammocks!

Good to see Archie Babe has got rid of his visitor, we feel the same when the Hooligans go after visiting us, normally all the food bowls are empty and the chews have disappeared from the Treat Box!

It's always lovely to see them, that is when they arrive but it's better when they go!

OTL says he may chance leaving both ferrets together in the cage tonight 'cos today it has been relatively quiet, cross claws there will be no screaming from Wendy!

See you tomorrow.

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret!

Match Making!

Hello Woofers!

It's Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret here again!

The weather looks like it will be all bright and sunny over the weekend so we are expecting to get out for good run all over the place, with the ferrets if everything goes well!

It was such a nice morning that Old Two Legs took Wendy out for a morning walk instead of Eric, Eric was not happy about that!

Makes a nice change to be out first, but she doesn't know whats coming!
Yesterday Old Two Legs visited the Harrietsham Ferret Rescue to hand over a cheque for money donated by the lovely ladies of the Allhallows Glue & Glitter Croppers!

While he was there he said hello to some of the ferrets awaiting new homes.

He was very good, he said that he planned to get Eric and Wendy together in the same cage without any fighting!

Roy suggested a bowl with some Ferretone Oil in the bottom and to slosh some over the backs of their necks before putting them together.

Well, today we tried it, to start off with, it seemed to go well, both Eric and Wendy had their noses in the bowl slurping away at the oil and then started licking each others neck.

Things looked good, well, until the oil had gone and the back of their necks were almost dry.

Then with a big scream Wendy launched herself at Eric who was bowled over backwards wondering where this ball of fury had come from!

Eric did what most male ferrets do when attacked like that, he showed her his butt, so she tried to bite it!

At that point OTL stepped in and separated them and they broke off and ran away.

So, while OTL was cage cleaning there were minor scraps and screams amongst the toys and chasing all through the house!

After cleaning the cages both ferrets came into the office, climbed into each others cage and set about wrecking each others bed clothes. Blankets went up in the air, cuddle cups were thrown around and to finish off, they both did a poo in the bottom cage!

By the time all this had happened, both ferrets were a little snoozy and headed for bed. Wendy got into her bedding and Eric tried to get in with her!

That's when the fight started!

Once again OTL separated them and both got into separate beds, this seemed to work, for a couple of minutes. Miss Wendy decided that she wanted to get into her bed that Eric was occupying and as before...........it was then that the fight started!

How long before she discovers Eric is a little closer than she wants him to be!
This time OTL put Wendy in her cuddle cup, on the ground floor and Eric went up on the hammock on the top floor and there they stayed.

So, all today OTL has been in the office watching both ferrets and making sure there were no more fights, well, OK, there were one or two spats but nothing too violent!

Today OTL reckons it has gone very well and with a bit of luck by the time we go on holiday the pair of them will be all cuddled up and using just the one cage!

More news as it comes!

A seriously Lazy Day!

Hello Woofers!

Here we are, Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret!

Well now, I know that we all have to work for a living even us woofers, I mean, Holly and I do our bit of guarding at night. Every hour and a half we get down off the bed and march around the house inspecting all the doors and cupboards and under the sofa and behind the chairs, just to make sure there are no Nargles or Nifflers doing something they shouldn't be doing!

Holly normally walks in front issuing the commands, like, 'Left paw down a bit' or 'About swivel'!

Then she has to make sure we keep in time, so it is, 'left, right, right, left!'

Tails up we march all over the house and as we inspect behind the curtains we both make a growling noise, just to scare off any intruders.

The Missus always calls out to us, not sure what she says but we are sure it translates into 'Well Done'!

Of course there are times when Holly is marching ahead and stops suddenly but as it is pitch black I don't see her stop light and end up nose first under her tail!

She says I should watch where I'm going, I tell her she needs brake lights on her butt which is big enough to mount truck size lights on.............and that's when the fight starts!

We were out early today 'cos Old Two Legs had to go out to see some customers and drop a load of stuff into the carriers.

If Holly stops suddenly she'll have Eric up her tail and he's got sharp teeth!
We decided that it would be a bit boring going out with him and we appointed TM as official 'Dog Walker' for the afternoon!

OTL didn't arrive back until late but we still gave him the Woofers Welcome, especially as he has sausages tonight, Yumm Yummm!

See you tomorrow!

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret!

Bye Bye to a Brave little Girl.

Hello Woofers.

Daisy, Holly, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret.

Little Miss May has been suffering from Insulinoma for some time now and we have been amazed at how she has put up such a fight.

We thought that she was leaving us last Christmas but she pulled around and even put on some weight with the help of Old Two Legs and a few packs of convalescence powder and a steady supply of Prednisolone which is a steroid medication.

One of the side effects of Insulinoma is fits which May was suffering from with greater regularity.

Today she had a bad series of fits which were upsetting for her as well as painful.

OTL decided that it was time she had a rest from these attacks and telephoned the vet.

Miss May has always been a brave, brave ferret. She would walk beside her sister, Miss April, supporting her on her shoulder if she got tired after coming to the end of her morning walk.

She was always there to cuddle April after the morning rampage and was there by her side when April passed away on the way back from her last morning walk.

When she met Eric for the first time she chased him around the cage something terrible.

After a while she settled down with him and they both enjoyed a happy and loving relationship.

As much as we wanted May to remain with us OTL felt that to keep her with us was not in her interest.

So, we have let her go ahead of us and she is now sleeping in the garden urn where her sister and all the other ferrets are sleeping.

Miss April and Miss May.

We visit The Hooligans!

Hello Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret here.

Well, it's not the bright sunny morning we were hoping for but the sun was up!

Early morning container carrier.
Well, at least he was up early even though it was a weekend!

We had Eric with us but he didn't want to get down for a run until we got to the long grass, which is his favourite bit!

We had an early lunchtime walk, mainly 'cos we were going to visit Jane and Ian, Paul and Zoe, Martin and Lisa and all the children who couldn't be left at home!

Of course there were the three woofers who we get on with but we are still wary off!

Our walk was a bit wet, seems Old Two Legs didn't check with the rain radar before setting off and he got a little wet, like wot we did!

Mind you, the rain did was the leaves on the trees and helped keep the mossies away!
Under the Fairy Arch!
One thing about Jane and Ian's garden, it's miles long and a woofer could get lost in there for a week!

Ian says there were loads of snakes in the woods, mostly Slow Worms which technically are not snakes but rather lizards wot have lost their legs!

Still, what ever they are, we don't do wriggly things, even if they are lizards!

See you tomorrow!

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret.

A sad day for us all.

Hello Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret here.

Last night Old Two Legs went in to give Miss May her medicine before bedtime.

Monty de Ferret was asleep on the hammock, cuddled up with Miss Wendy, fast asleep.

OTL decided not to wake Monty and instead gave him a little stroke on the back of his neck.

This morning when OTL went in to see the ferrets he found Monty, cold and stiff, he must have died around midnight, still in the same position where he was cuddled up with Wendy.

Monty has been with us fifteen months and he came just after the lovable  Freddy de Ferret passed on.

We took Monty as we heard that he was been bullied by the other ferrets in the cage and he has been thrown out of the bedroom and forced to sleep on his own!

Well, you don't leave a ferret who needed help and even though he got a nip or two from Wendy!

He took some time to settle in with Miss Wendy but after a couple of weeks they were snuggled up together.

When do we get out for play?

Once he had settled down his confidence grew in leaps and bounds and when he was taken on holiday with us in the caravan and found he had a sandy beach that went on forever his character just bloomed!

....and I can dig in it as well?
He became more relaxed with Wendy and soon was having a great time play fighting with her!

Gottcha!
We were not sure of his age when he came to us , possibly six months old, so that plus the fifteen months with us makes him around two years old.

Monty is now resting in the big urn in the garden where all the other ferrets are sleeping, so he won't be alone and OTL often goes out to tell them what's been happening!

Miss May is looking sad and although she like cuddles from OTL you see her wandering around the cage looking for Monty to have a cuddle.

We may see if the Harrietsham Ferret Rescue has a little ferret who is in need of a forever home.

Bye for now.

Bye bye from Monty.

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy and Eric de Ferret.

Monty is hanging on but.....

Hi Woofers!

Here we are again, Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy, Eric de Ferret and our little Monty de Ferret.

Old Two Legs is not too happy today, you see he has been trying to get Monty to take food. He has tried the meat paste stuff the vet gave him but Monty struggles like mad and refuses to let it get anywhere near his mouth. So, OTL is left with the convalescence powder in Lactose Free Milk and feeding it via a syringe into the corner of Monty's mouth so he can swallow it and still breath!

Monty is not too happy about that but doesn't struggle so much as the meat paste!

This morning he was down to the vet to get his operation looked at and checked for nasties and none were found, so, that was good.

He was given Betamox mixed with Vitbee, which is the vitamin B12 mixed with Betamox a suspension fluid, just to see if we can get to the point where Monty would want to eat. We know that once he gets to wanting to eat then that will be half of the way back to full health.

The vet was hinting that OTL should be prepared to make a 'decision' on the next visit, which is set for Monday morning first thing.

Our walk this morning looked a bit gloomy over the sea. The rain clouds we have been promised were piling up over the channel!

It's going to get wet!
We arrived at the football field car park and went off for a sniff while OTL locked the car.

Then we heard it, a load of woofing and laughter, it looks like the woofer walking party had arrived!

It was lucky that we were just slightly ahead so we managed to get first go at the sniffs!

Hey! There's a new one here and we might just get a roll if OTL carries on walking!
He didn't, he waited there until we had passed and then followed us mumbling something about smelly woofers and a cold wet shower if we even so much as thought about it!

Us? Roll in a sniff? Never!

Much!

Lunchtime the rain started, not much but enough for us to notice. Eric stayed in the bag until we got around to the long grass which is his favourite bit and he was down and ferreting like a good'n!

OTL didn't have the camera so he had to play with the phone camera which was a bit wobbly!

I just love this grass!
Trouble with Eric, he takes too long getting through the grass, so long that Holly just had to have a rest!

Wake me when he gets here!
OTL has been feeding Monty every three hours and managing to get a whole syringe full down his throat and so far we haven't seen him spitting it out.

Claws crossed, we just need him to feed himself once and then he will be away!

See you all tomorrow!

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy, Eric de Ferret and Monty de Ferret.

Monty is still off his food.

Hello Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy, Eric de Ferret and Monty de Ferret here!

Little Monty is still not back to normal yet. Old Two Legs has been trying to get him to eat some special stuff he got from the vet that should help make him feel better. The vet gave him two tins of the stuff plus two syringes.

Now, at first OTL was unsure of the syringes but last night he mixed up a bowl of this stuff, mixed with Royal Canine Convalescence powder and a splosh of Lactose Free Milk. Monty didn't want it, so, using the syringe, OTL managed to get a couple of tubes of the stuff down Monty's throat. He didn't like it and put up a bit of a struggle even though OTL wrapped him up in a towel.

This morning OTL tried a mixture of just the convalescence powder and lactose free milk and once again he struggled like mad trying to get it down Monty's throat!

OTL says that he remembers when he had to give Snowflake some medicine using a syringe but just after he squirted it into her mouth, she shook her head and both OTL and the Vet were covered in the medicine!

That was before we discovered Ferretone!

Yeah, we have tried Ferretone with Monty but he doesn't do Ferretone as much as the other ferrets!

OTL says that it may not be much but he is managing to get some down Monty's throat which is better that nothing!

Miss Wendy keeps cuddling up to Monty and giving him a sniff around his tummy and butt. Then the pair of them creep under the blanket and have a snooze while OTL mixes up some more powder!

It's strange how miss May just loves the stuff and can't get enough but Monty thinks it is poison!

We met up with Olly this morning and told him about Monty. Olly said that he sends his love to Monty and although he rather fancies roast ferret on toast for breakfast he understood about not liking the medicine!

What do you reckon a ferret tastes like, rabbit?
OTL was looking for insects but all he came across was this daytime moth, well, we think it is a daytime moth 'cos we haven't seen a butterfly like it!

Must get the book out and see what this is!
Lunchtime I had a bit of luck, there, on the ground was a brand new shinny tennis ball just waiting to be thrown. OTL spotted me sniffing it and threw it down the path for me. I got a bit fed up later 'cos OTL couldn't throw it that far, what he needs is the throwing stick in the caravan to get some distance!

I'm getting fed up with this, I need a good run not a trot down the path!
The Missus said that there were loads of messages on FaceAche wishing Monty well but as we don't have FaceAche on OTL's computer we can't see them.

Well, a big thank you to all who have send good wishes and mixed with our good wishes we are hoping that he starts eating again 'cos that will be a good sign!

Tomorrow Monty is off to the vet first thing. More news as it comes!

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy, Eric de Ferret and Monty de Ferret.

Not one of the best days we have had!

Hi Woofers!

It's Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy, Eric de Ferret and Monty de Ferret here.

Not the best of days, it started off raining as we headed out for our morning stroll, well the clouds made everything dark and gloomy!

Old Two Legs made it a little darker by doing some fiddly diddly with the camera settings, just to give it atmosphere, well, that's his excuse!

Moody? Well, it still looks just dark to me!
While he was messing about Holly and I headed off to the long grass for some serious sniffing and a nibble of grass 'cos Holly reckons she has a Grumbly Tum and needs a little 'Help'!

I'd much prefer the Spring Grass, it's got more body to it!
Being as we were out earlier than normal we didn't see anyone on the path or even in the woods, it was almost spooky!

Just us and the trees!
A quarter to eleven arrived and OTL was off with Miss May, Wendy and Monty to see the vet.

Miss May got weighed and pushed and poked then finally she got stabbed with the sharp needle and that was her sorted for the next twelve months!

Young Monty came out of the cage and was pushed and poked and prodded and finally the vet said she had found a 'Lump'!

Unfortunately an X Ray wouldn't show anything 'cos Monty was so small and there was only one thing that could be done, an operation to see what was there.

So, we had to leave Monty at the vet and we are all sitting at home with our claws crossed. It seems that the longer it is that we don't hear anything the better it is, so, at half past one we are trying to keep busy by writing up the blog and hoping we don't get a phone call until late this afternoon.

Well, the phone rang a couple of minutes ago and it was a case of 'Good News/ Bad News'.

It seems that there is no blockage in his gut, 'good news' however, the vet found that the adrenal glands were enlarged due to 'Adrenal Disease' and while he is all sewn up and recovering the vet says Monty has 'Two or Three months at best'. It seems there is no cure and antibiotics may help but if it gets painful there may be just one option left.

It means however, that he will get a load of loving and anything he wants in the way of treats!

OTL is going to pick him up around six thirty, so we will have posted this blog by then. If there is any more new we will tell you tomorrow.

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy, Eric de Ferret and Monty de Ferret.

It's Dry for a change!

Hello Woofers!

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy, Eric de Ferret and Monty de Ferret here!

What a super day it's been. No rain at all today, in fact it has been rather sunny and very August like!

We had a super walk along the sea front and as Eric had come along as well, we challenged him to a race!

Come on, the first down to the beach wins!
Of course, there was no way he could beat us and to be honest we didn't even expect him to try!

But it was fun winding him up!

Never mind a running race, how about a sniffing contest!
Knowing what a Super Sniffer he was we declined and ran off looking for our own sniffs!

Eric was having a great time in the long grass sniffing out all the Weasel sniffs and even found a couple of what he said were Stoats!

Bet you can't see me here in the grass!
Soon we ran out of long grass and headed towards the trees. Eric and I had a chat about Miss May and he said that she was off to the vet again tomorrow to get her yearly injection and she was taking Monty with her 'cos Old Two Legs was worried about his weight loss and didn't know if it was because Summer was here or there was something else!

Yeah, he has never been what you could call 'Cuddly'!
Lunchtime came and although there were clouds in the sky, it was still warm with a gentle breeze blowing.

There seem to be more ships than normal heading up the Thames.
Wendy and Monty came out for a run and we had a bit of a scare. While we all were looking out to sea counting ships, we heard the pounding of two woofers in full charge and out of the bushes came two greyhound woofers charging along at full speed.

Now there is nothing a greyhound loves, besides a rabbit, is a pair of ferrets for lunch! Now OTL knows this and like a flash was down and picked both ferrets up!

Lucky for us, there rushed off into the next group of bushes looking for rabbits and didn't see us or the ferrets!

What the Ferreting Heck was that?
We waited a while but they didn't come back and Wendy and Monty carried on ferreting around in the long grass, doing what ferrets do best, ferreting!

Lets hope Monty gets sorted tomorrow and OTL's credit card doesn't catch fire!

See you tomorrow.

Luv,

Daisy, Holly, Miss May, Miss Wendy, Eric de Ferret and Monty de Ferret.
